I’m starting the deep dive into Nodo Tech by going into Visitor Management; I wanted to start here because this was the core (and first) feature I built Nodo Tech.  Due to that, I’ve had a lot of time to think it regarding what makes great visitor management.

Here are the principles I came up with to guide my decisions with this feature:

1. It should be thorough
2. It should be easy to use for the school
3. It should be easy to use for the visitor.
4. It should help the school’s security.

Looking back, I believe I achieved all of these. With this feature, my software checks for sex offender status- not only in every US state but every US territory and every Indian territory. Plus it checks for aliases too. If your school has personally banned a visitor for whatever reason you choose, it’ll check for that too. So you don’t have to worry if there’s someone new in the office that day. You’re still covered.

When I do training for this at schools, I can typically teach this portion in less than 5 minutes. It’s very easy and intuitive and that was an important goal for me to achieve. For the visitor, it’s easy because they can schedule their visit ahead of time and have the background check done before they show up using my Nodo Visit app.

I’ve seen some schools talk about lines out the door for signing in at events with a competitor’s product. That’s not an issue with Nodo Tech because you can have the visitor’s badge printed for them and ready for their arrival. They’re out of the office in less than five seconds.

Finally, my visitor management process takes a current picture of the individual as they look the day of the visit and print that on the badge. You’ll see some competitors will scan the driver’s license and I really don’t understand that. How many of us look like our driver’s license- which can be up to 10 years old? It’s a huge security risk. If there is an incident, my app will send out an alert of what the person looks like so Security can quickly find them and they’ll be wearing the exact same clothes and have the same build.
